The Office of the United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 2014 Youth Courage Awards. The inaugural set of Youth Courage Awards were announced at the United Nations on Malala Day in 2013, honoring 6 young people who had demonstrated leadership in the fight to get every child into school and learning. This year’s awards will recognize and honor youth who have, through their personal action, demonstrated courage and leadership and as change agents for universal education.
The United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI) is a partnership of organizations committed to narrowing the gender gap in primary and secondary education. It also seeks to ensure that, by 2015, all children complete primary schooling, with girls and boys having equal access to free, quality education. UNGEI was launched in April 2000 at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, by then United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in response to a troubling reality: Of the millions of children worldwide who were not in school, more than half were girls – a reality that continues today.
Awardees will be announced at a special Youth General Assembly that will be hosted on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on 22nd September 2014 in New York.
We invite partners to nominate outstanding young people 14-29 years of age. To submit a nomination, please fill out the form online here. The deadline for submissions is Friday August 29th.
