Washington DC, FIACONA initiates a petition drive asking the U.S. Justice Department to investigate Vishva Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA) for its support of VHP its parent organization and other anti-Christian groups that threaten Christians in India.
On March 18 this year, the General Secretary of Vishva Hindu Parishad, Mr. Surendra Jain, blamed the rape of a 72 year old nun on what he referred to as the “Christian culture of sexual exploitation”.
The IB TIMES UK reports that, “The comment by Surendra Jain, the general secretary of the right-wing Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), also known as World Hindu Council, came amid growing security fears for India’s Christian and Muslim minorities who have lamented a rise in communal violence”.

In a recent television interview, the General Secretary of VHP also defended the demolition of the church in the northern Indian State of Haryana saying that they did not need any churches in that area.
In a New York Times article on 24th December last year, answering to a question on Prime Minister Modi’s assurances to Christian community about freedom of faith, “How do you know that Mr. Modi is trying to stop reconversions?” Surendra Jain, a spokesman for the Vishva Hindu Parishad, another Hindu nationalist group, asked in an interview. “Christians and Muslims here are brothers and sisters of our blood. They were forced to convert either by allurement (coercion) or fraud. If some people want to rectify the error of their ancestors, what is wrong with (that)”.
The American arm of this organization, VHPA is a 501C(3) tax exempt organization in the United States collecting large amounts of money here. Are these funds collected in the US used for activities that oppress Christian and other religious groups in India by VHP – its parent organization?
In India, the Christian churches provide a large share of critically needed health and education services. They are currently being severely restricted by the Indian government on the pretext that the Christians encourage conversions. Conversely, organizations like VHP are freely forcing Christians to convert to Hinduism and demolish their churches. The new BJP government under Mr. Modi is actively shutting down social and religious work of Christian churches in India under one or other pretext.
FIACONA is initiating a petition drive asking the US Justice Department to investigate and hold VHPA accountable for their support of activities against Christians in India. The Indian Diaspora in United States is thereby urged to sign this petition in support of democracy, justice and freedom of conscience.
