Once an I.I.T. Professor, now a savior of tribals; Story of an ex-IIT professor who once taught Raghuram Rajan & is now living in tribal village of MP

We live in a place where education degree has merely became a judgmental statement. Yet, in this verge of time; ALOK SAGAR had set an example and proved us that qualification is not essential for good deeds.

For the past 32 years, Alok Sagar has been fighting for the rights of tribal people living in the village of Betul district of Madhya pradesh. Beside fighting for the rights of tribal, he also engage in teaching village children and planting 50,000 trees in Betul district.

over the last three decades, none had any idea of this man. he was just another rights activist for the people of that area. No one would ever know of the great mind in their midst had it not been the Betul district administrator, who asked him to leave the area citing the security reasons. It was only at that moment that Alok Sagar revealed a bit of his past. his past completely shocked every police officers present there.

He is a son of an IRS officer father and a physics professor mother who taught at Miranda House. Moreover, he himself has a degree of M.Tech from IIT-Delhi in 1973. Adding to his educational excellence, he has a PhD from Houston University in Texas and post doctorate in dental science from Texas university. Following a fellow of sociology department at Dalhousie university of Canada.

He was also a professor at IIT-Delhi till 1982 and if Sagar is to be believed then RBI governor Raghuram Rajan was his student at IIT-Delhi. Regarding his qualification Sagar says that he doesn’t need a degree to serve people, only will power. ” In India, people are facing so many problems, but people are busy proving their intelligence by showing their degrees than serving people”, remarked Alok Sagar.
