A day after Malayalam star Dileep was released from Aluva Sub Jail on conditional bail, actor-turned-politician KB Ganesh Kumar has criticised superstar Mammootty for expelling Dileep from Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).
He claimed that Mammootty, who is also the general secretary of AMMA, was under pressure from Prithviraj to make the arbitrary decision against Dileep. As one of the executive members who wrote AMMA’s rule book, he said the association did not follow due process while cancelling the primary membership of his friend Dileep.
“They (Prithviraj) have a vendetta against Dileep. So, maybe Mammootty took such a decision because of pressure from Dileep and to satisfy the media. Technically, one or two persons like the President or Secretary cannot expel an AMMA member. He was not expelled legally,” alleged Ganesh, Pathanapuram MLA and Vice President of AMMA, according to The News Minute.
He has claimed that according to the rules, the association should appoint a disciplinary committee, which should investigate the issue and make its recommendations to another three-member panel before expelling a member.
On July 10, Dileep was arrested in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of a Malayalam actress. The next day, the executive committee of AMMA met at the Kochi residence of Mammootty to decide the action on Dileep, who was also the treasurer of AMMA at the time.
After the emergency meeting, Mammootty told media that Dileep’s membership was revoked. Not just actors’ guild, he was even expelled from the primary membership in Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, the Kerala Film Producers Association and Film Employees Federation of Kerala.
“If we are members of a local club, people there would at least give blood when we are in the hospital, but these organisations are not useful for even that,” Ganesh said.
The same report said that Ganesh was of the opinion that Dileep should not return to these organisations that ditched him when he was in a trouble.
After spending 85 days in the Aluva Sub Jail, Dileep was granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court. He was released on Tuesday amid huge fanfare as hundreds of his fans had gathered near the prison to show their support to him. However, the Ramaleela actor has the sword of Damocles hanging over his head in the sensational case that has caused a serious dent in his public image.Print This Post To toggle between English & Malayalam Press CTRL+g
