Srinagar: In an absolutely shocking statement, National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah on Saturday suggested that Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir “rightfully belongs to Pakistan.”
This statement is being viewed as a betrayal of national interest by the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, who has made similar statements before.
“I am telling the world clearly. The part which is with Pakistan belongs to Pakistan and this is India’s part. If they want peace, the government will have to talk to Pakistan and will have to give autonomy to us as well as to them,” Abdullah told the media on Saturday.
“A Pakistan Minister very rightly said that you forget that the part which is yours was acquired by an Instrument of Accession. You forget Instrument of accession and say that the part is yours. If you talk about this being your part then remember the Instrument as well,” he added.
The NC Chief was speaking about the government-appointed interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma’s conversations with all parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
“He (Sharma) has held talks but talks alone is not the solution. This issue is between India & Pakistan. Indian govt must also hold talks with Pakistan govt because a part of Kashmir is also with them,” Abdullah said.
This is not the first time Abdullah has made such a controversial statement. Hours after the Centre appointed had Sharma to hold talks with all stakeholders to resolve the Kashmir issue, Abdullah had suggested that the interlocutor should hold talks with Pakistan as well.Print This Post To toggle between English & Malayalam Press CTRL+g
