Shivraj-Singh-Couhan-1-1200x561New Delhi: Accusing the Congress of starting political violence in Madhya Pradesh, state chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan asserted that the party is “thirsty for my blood” after a vehicle in which he was touring the state ahead of the assembly polls later this year was attacked on Sunday, Indian Express reported.

Stones and slippers were thrown at the bus – which has been modified to look like a chariot – and black flags were shown during a campaign rally in Churhat area near Sidhi district. According to police officials, the window of the vehicle was damaged but no one was hurt in the incident.

According to a Times of India report, nine persons booked in relation to the incident have been identified as Congress workers, including the district IT cell in-charge Pankaj Singh Chauhan.

Churhat is the constituency of opposition leader Ajay Singh. The attack invited scathing criticism of the Congress. Addressing a public meeting on Monday, the chief minister said that the people of MP were with him and challenged Singh to “come out in the open and fight” with him, NDTV reported.

“The Congress is thirsty for my blood. No politician stooped so low in Madhya Pradesh,” Chaohan said. “Ajay Singh, if you have strength come in open and fight with me. I am physically weak but I won’t be bogged down by your deeds. People of the state are with me.”

He added, “I want to ask Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress state president Kamal Nath, in which direction do they wish to take the party? Is it fine what their leaders and workers are doing?”

Reacting to the incident, state home minister Bhupendra Singh said that a probe into the attack has revealed there was “a well-planned conspiracy by some Congress leaders to assassinate” the chief minister by “attacking his chariot” when the campaign rally reached the Sidhi district.

Singh, in response, categorically denied the involvement of any member of his party in the incident, and said he suspected it was a “conspiracy” aimed at defaming him as well as “the people of Churhat”.
