“Mira Ricardel will continue to support the President as she departs the White House to transition to a new role within the Administration. The President is grateful for Ms. Ricardel’s continued service to the American people and her steadfast pursuit of his national security priorities,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

What Ricardel, a former deputy national security adviser, will do next in Trump’s administration remains unclear.

On Tuesday, the Office of the First Lady issued a statement calling for Ricardel’s removal from her position, saying, “It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that she (Ricardel) no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House.”

According to multiple media reports, Ricardel has been fighting with members of Melania Trump’s staff, most recently over a trip to Africa. Those altercations come after well-known disputes between Ricardel and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.

Tensions were also on the rise between Ricardel, White House chief of staff John Kelly and his deputy Zach Fuentes in recent weeks, CNN reported.

Ricardel began her post in April 2018, marking just seven months in the job.
