Now after three years, papad has to be rolled again, but not for admission in university, but school. That too for foreign university. The story of Homi Adajania-directed English Medium revolves around this. At the same time, Irfan Khan is returning to the big screen after fighting the disease. So will this film by Irrfan Khan be able to woo audiences, will the English medium get the same love as the Hindi medium? Let’s know how Homi Adjania’s film English Medium is made
story
Champak (Irrfan Khan) has a sweet shop. Business is also going well, just speaking English is a bit of a crook. Now Champak himself is not much educated but does not stop his daughter Tarika Bansal (Radhika Madan) from dreaming big. Her daughter too is not very fast in studies but dreams of studying in London. He needs admission to Truford University, London. Now due to this insistence of Tariqa, Champak gets stuck in the middle, he has to fulfill his daughter’s dream too and she does not have to be far from her. But then Champak is determined to fulfill his daughter’s dream. He tries to get his daughter to get admission in London. What helps him in this work is his friend Ghasiteram (Deepak Dobriyal) who does not get along with Champak but he comes with him to help Tariqa. The style of helping both is also such that they also get ready to take citizenship of London, that too on fake passports. Now the film is about which tactics are adopted to get Tarika to get admission in Trudeford University, London. So will Tarika be able to study at the University of London? Will Champak succeed in his mission? Will the lies of Champak and Ghasiteram be revealed in front of everyone? You will get answers to these questions when you will see director Homi Adajania’s film English Medium. So will Tarika be able to study at the University of London? Any film can be said to be successful in the true sense only when it is seen delivering its message to the audience in the right way. Now the question arises whether the English medium has been able to do so. So the answer is no. Seeing the trailer of English Medium, it was known that the film will focus on the challenges faced by the admission in foreign universities. But after watching the film it seems that the issue was left behind somewhere. The film did not understand the depth of that issue nor did it bother to raise it in the right way. The English medium was seen running on the same track. The film was more focused on father and daughter relationship. Because of this, the film deviated from its original issue.
Acting
The weak story of the English medium is supported by the best acting of Irrfan and Deepak Dobriyal. Both work in the film has been excellent. Talking about Irrfan Khan, he is seen to be amazing in the film. Then whether it is an emotional scene or a laughing joke, they will win your heart in every form. If Irrfan Khan is an English medium, then the heart of the film is hidden in Deepak Dobriyal’s unmatched performance. Deepak’s role of Ghasiteram will make you laugh in every scene. He has a natural comic timing that brings life to every scene. On screen, Irfan’s fun with Deepak also makes a lot of laughs and also becomes the highlight of the film.
Radhika Madan’s work in the film will also be called wonderful. He has played his role with full vigor. The style in which he has worked on his accent for the role is a commendable compliment. His character has been coined in the film in the right way, due to which his acting has also come out very well. But the same thing cannot go anywhere for Kareena Kapoor. He has definitely been given the role of a police coop in the film but has no work. Whether or not he is in the film seems to be the same because his character did not appear to be doing anything to advance the story.
The work of Kiku Sharada, who made everyone laugh in the Kapil Sharma show, is also average. Apart from him, only Ranveer Shorey has been seen to influence to some extent among the co-actors of the film. Veteran artists Pankaj Tripathi and Dimple Kapadia have disappointed. But his fault is less and more of the story, which did not give him any chance to explore.
direction
Direction of English medium will also be counted in its weak link. The film has failed to keep the audience hooked till the end. Recall when Saket Chaudhary directed in the Hindi medium. Then there was a feel good factor in the film, due to which the audience’s engagement with the film was strengthened. But the same feel good factor is missing now. The film has tried to raise many issues simultaneously, due to which the story loses its rhythm on many occasions.
