New Delhi: According to the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report by the US, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and government companies are getting their employees to work under ‘dangerous conditions’ on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects.
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed that China falls in the tier-3 category (the lowest ranking). He said, ‘Our TIP report tells about the countries where examples of state-sponsored bonded labor are seen. One of them is China, where the CCP and government companies force the citizens of the belt and road projects to work under dangerous conditions often.
However, this is not the first time that China has been placed in the tier-3 category. China has been in the tier-3 category since 2017, as the US report believes that “China does not meet the minimum standards to eliminate smuggling and is not making significant efforts to do so.” ‘
The report states that- ‘Despite the lack of significant efforts, the government has taken some steps to curb smuggling, including convicting, prosecuting and smuggling some international smugglers into the PRC for fraud and fraud Weddings were banned, due to which foreign women and girls were upset.
The report claimed that despite these efforts, the most disturbing thing is bonded labor, especially with the help of Detention Camp, where millions of Uygar, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and other Muslims are detained in Xinjiang Has been taken. The report urges China to forcibly eliminate wages.
The TIP report is divided into Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-2 Watchlist and Tier-3. To prevent smuggling, countries whose governments fully meet TVPA`s (Trafficking Victims Protection Act) standards are placed in Tier-1. Countries under Tier 3 get only limited resources from the US.
