Instead of handing over the dead body of the Hathras gang-rape victim to the family, the Bharatiya Janata Party MLA has strongly opposed it in the midst of anger across the country against the burning of policemen at midnight. BJP MLA Nandkishore Gurjar has demanded action from Governor Anandiben Patel against the officials who prevented her family members from performing the last rites of the Hathras gang-rape victim.
He is the representative of Loni Legislative Assembly of Ghaziabad near the capital Delhi. Gurjar said that the police burnt the body of the 19-year-old victim in a hurry, in violation of the belief not to perform the last rites in Hinduism after sunset.
The family of the 19-year-old victim alleged that she was being forced by the UP police to cremate her at night. However, the police said that they had taken consent from his relatives for this. Opposition parties criticized the Yogi Adityanath government for cremating the dead body at midnight and accused it of suppressing the protest.
Gurjar claimed that a ‘political syndicate’ was working with the authorities to call the BJP a Dalit opposition and the administration’s decision to burn the woman’s body at midnight was part of this conspiracy.
The BJP MLA wrote a letter to the Governor, saying, “It seems that top officials from Lucknow to Hathras did such a thing that would tarnish the image of the government.” It is not possible that the things which are against ‘Sanatan Dharma’ that the dead body is not cremated at night and deprive the family of the right to bear the corpse, is not possible with the consent of UP DGP and other senior officials . ”
Demanding that the murder case be fast tracked in the authorities, he said, “The unfortunate incident in Balrampur may be part of this syndicate, about which I had already told the Chief Minister.”
