MAYOR BILL DE BLASIO APPOINTS JUKAY HSU TO QUEENS BOROUGH PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

NEW YORK—Bill de Blasio announced his appointment of Jukay Hsu to the Queens Borough Public Library Board of Trustees this week.

A social entrepreneur and advocate for technology-driven economic development in Queens, Hsu brings years of experience and a strong history of civic engagement to the library’s board. Hsu, a decorated veteran, attended public school in New York City and returned to Queens to found and direct the Coalition for Queens (C4Q), a non-profit focused on increasing opportunities and pathways for tech entrepreneurship and innovation. As a trustee, Hsu will be charged with monitoring library operations, ensuring transparency, and safeguarding the library’s resources for its educational mission.

The Queens Library serves 2.3 million people from 62 locations, as well as seven Adult Learning Centers and two Family Literacy Centers. The library, guided by a 19-member board of trustees, circulates among the highest number of books and other library materials in the country, and is home to one of the largest collections in the United States.

About Jukay Hsu

Born in Taiwan and raised in Flushing, Queens, Jukay Hsu is the founder and executive director of the Coalition for Queens (C4Q), a non-profit organization focused on transforming the world’s most diverse community into a hub for tech, entrepreneurship and innovation. A veteran of the Iraq War, Hsu was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service against an armed enemy, and led economic development and government initiatives for two Iraqi districts.

Hsu was awarded the Association for a Better New York’s “Sprit of ABNY” award in 2014, and was recognized by the Queens Courier in 2011 as a “40 under 40” Rising Star. Hsu received a degree in economics with a focus on economic development policy from Harvard University. Hsu also attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, where he currently serves as director of the school’s alumni association.
