You are reading right China has claimed Russia’s city of Vladivostok. The city was once related to the Qing Dynasty. Russia established control over the region after defeating China in the Second Opium War. China had to give this area to Russia. For this, a treaty was also signed between the two countries in 1860. Since then the city has been under the suzerainty of Russia but China has refused to accept the treaty.

Not only this, China also said that this city was earlier known as Hachenwai which was taken away from Russia under unilateral treaty with Russia. Now China has started propagating against Russia. Vladivostok has been occupied by Russia for 160 years.

The controversy started with a social media post. A video was posted on the micro-blogging site Weibo by the Russian Embassy in China about the city of Vladivostok. The purpose of the video was to celebrate the 160th Foundation Day of Vladivostok city. China went through this exasperation.

At the same time, China also has disputes with Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia. Vladivostok city of Russia is the main base of its fleet deployed in the Pacific Ocean. The city is the capital of the Primorsky Krai state. The city is located near the border of China and North Korea. Vladivostok is the most important city in Russia, commercially and historically. Majority of the trade from Russia goes through this port.
