Plus Two Students Selected for The Pillay Foundation Scholarship Program for 2021

The Pillay Foundation (PF) is pleased to announce the names of the students selected for the college scholarship program for 2021. The PF is also pleased to announce the distribution of smart phones to 28 poor students in schools located in Vaikom municipal town to pursue online classes.

Thirty five students are selected this year from 10 Higher Secondary (HS) Schools in Vaikom area. With this selection, the total number of students in the scholarship program in 2021 becomes 83. The names of the selected students and the schools they attended are given below.

The PF offers two programs for selected studies:

1. Rs. 8,000 per year for selected students pursuing a three-year degree/diploma course.
Exception: Rs.10, 000 per year for 31/2-year general nursing diploma course.

2. Rs.15,000 per year for selected students pursuing a professional degree course.

The selected students can choose any of the above courses/programs. The scholarship is subject to proof of admission to an accredited institution. The selected students will continue to receive scholarship for the prescribed years to complete the course. Selection of students for the program is based on the detailed evaluation of economic criteria (poverty) and the academic performance.

On PF’s request, 10 HS Schools in Vaikom area participated in the scholarship program. Preliminary selection of 6 students from each school based on PF selection criteria was made by the school. The applications in the PF prescribed form from the selected students attested by the school principals were then sent to PF. Final selection is made based on detailed further evaluation of economic and merit criteria. Verification of the economic criteria was conducted this year by telephone instead of visiting student’s homes as usually done because of COVID 19.

The PF is a non-profit private family foundation established by Mohan Prabhakaran Pillay and his wife Jaya Pillay, and has been offering scholarship to students in Vaikom area schools annually to pursue college education since 2003. Mr. Pillay hails from Parickapalli family in Vaikom.
