Eastern Bergen County, New Jersey\u00a0 — The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County is accepting applications for its seventh annual High School Young Women’s Leadership Awards.\u00a0\u00a0This year, three awards will be given to outstanding students identifying as female, enrolled in either their junior or senior years, and residing and\/or attending a public or private a high school in eastern Bergen County, New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth Morrow Morgan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Applicants living in and\/or attending a school in any of these towns may apply: Alpine, Bergenfield, Closter, Cresskill, Demarest, Dumont, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Harrington Park, Haworth, Northvale, Norwood, Old Tappan, Rockleigh and Tenafly.\u00a0\u00a0The deadline to apply is February 15, 2024<\/u>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Candidates are compassionate young women, who have demonstrated a passion for leadership in the community through innovative thinking and the courage of their convictions.\u00a0\u00a0They are required to complete an online application and present two recommendations.\u00a0\u00a0Finalists will be notified and asked to participate in an interview with the application review committee.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Community Chest’s High School Senior Young Women’s Leadership Awards provide a $5,000 award to one first place winner.\u00a0\u00a0High school seniors, who identify as female, may complete an online application available at\u00a0https:\/\/thecommunitychestebc.org\/youngwomenprogram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Community Chest is also giving a Junior Young Woman’s Leadership Award.\u00a0\u00a0Two winners will each be presented $1,000 and an opportunity to participate in an internship with a local nonprofit during the school year or summer.\u00a0\u00a0Applicants must complete and submit an online application available at\u00a0https:\/\/thecommunitychestebc.org\/youngwomenprogram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Cutter Morrow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Through a highly competitive process, applications will be reviewed by an esteemed group of women leaders, who have volunteered to judge the applications.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0winners receive a certificate memorializing their award to include in their college admissions packet.\u00a0 They are also invited to attend a celebration and meet local women leaders from the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n

The Legacy of the Elizabeths<\/u><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The leadership award honors the legacy of the three Elizabeths — Elizabeth Cutter Morrow, Elizabeth Morrow Morgan, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.\u00a0\u00a0During the Great Depression, Elizabeth Cutter Morrow, an Englewood resident, became the founding board chair of The Community Chest.\u00a0\u00a0Elisabeth Morrow Morgan, the founder of The Elisabeth Morrow School, grew up in Englewood.\u00a0\u00a0Tenafly resident Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a leader in the suffragist movement.<\/p>\n
