The danger of deep fakes is not just limited to financial loss.\u00a0Along with financial loss, deep fakes have also caused great embarrassment to many people.\u00a0Today, deepfake technology has become a nightmare affecting everyone from ordinary people to celebrities.\u00a0It is essential to be aware of deep fake scams in the context of their prevalence.\u00a0It requires knowing how to identify and defend against deep fakes.\u00a0Let’s see some techniques for that.<\/span><\/p>\n

Analyze facial expressions and movements:<\/strong>
\nThe main way to identify a deepfake video is the authenticity of facial expressions and movements. Note blinking patterns, lip movements, facial expressions that do not match speech, and abnormalities in facial expressions. Deepfake algorithms are often unable to replicate faces and facial expressions with a natural level of detail.<\/p>\n

Audio quality and lip movements:<\/strong>
\nDeepfake videos often show inconsistencies between the audio track and the visuals. Often speaking does not match the movements of the lips. To do this, listen carefully to the audio and observe whether it matches the speaker’s mouth movements. Anomalies such as distorted sound and unnatural pauses indicate manipulation.<\/p>\n

Check out the lighting and shadow:<\/strong>
\nLighting and shadows (lights and shadows) in a video can give clues about its authenticity. Note the consistency of lighting in different frames and the shadows of objects and people. Inconsistencies in the direction or intensity of lighting and shadows indicate that the video is a deepfake.<\/p>\n

Note on video calls:<\/strong>
\nDeepfake scams are often done through video calls. Fraud is done by copying someone else’s face through deepfake and calling with that face. Asking the other party to do something unexpected in such a situation can be helpful to know if it is a deepfake scam. Asking the person to move their hand in front of their face is a good method. Asking to move a glass in front of the face can also help.<\/p>\n

\nThere are many software tools available today to identify deepfakes. Many of these are powered by AI. Being AI tools, their reliability is questioned. Sometimes using such tools can lead to more problems. So using software tools to detect deep fakes should be done with caution.<\/p>\n
