(Eastern Bergen County, New Jersey; October 21, 2024) \u2013 The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County announces Amie AbuRustum of Tenafly has been named President of the Board of Managers.\u00a0\u00a0AbuRustum, who previously served as First Vice President, has been an active member of The Chest’s Board of Managers since 2016.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0“We are delighted Amie AbuRustum has assumed the leadership role of President on the Board of Managers.\u00a0\u00a0From her previous experiences serving on The Community Chest’s Board of Managers, the Events Committee, and the Allocations Committee, she understands the organization’s mission and programs.\u00a0\u00a0During Ms. AbuRustum\u2019s term, we look forward to her providing new insights to the Board of Managers to carry out The Community Chest\u2019s mission, programming and activities,” said Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer, Executive Director, The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0AbuRustum has supported and led several activities with The Community Chest for ten years.\u00a0\u00a0She has co-chaired the Young Women\u2019s Leadership Program, served as chair of the Allocations Committee, and volunteered on the Events Committee and in other capacities in the organization.\u00a0\u00a0As a member of the Board of Managers, she served as Secretary and as First Vice President.\u00a0\u00a0For her contributions to the organization, The Community Chest honored her in 2022 at its annual gala with the Outstanding Trustee Award.<\/p>\n

A passionate advocate for young people, AbuRustum worked to expand The Community Chest’s Young Women’s Leadership Program from presenting a single award for a senior in high school\u00a0to one that recognizes both juniors and seniors in the community who demonstrate stellar leadership.\u00a0\u00a0In addition, the program developed workshops for high school students to prepare for college.\u00a0\u00a0This spring, the program will partner with a local nonprofit to provide high school seniors in need of computers for college.<\/p>\n

In addition to her work with The Community Chest, AbuRustum has also been involved actively with other organizations.\u00a0\u00a0Previously, she volunteered in the schools her children attended, and she served on the board of directors of the J. Spencer Smith School in Tenafly.<\/p>\n

AbuRustum received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Loyola University of Maryland and a masters of education in speech pathology from the University of Virginia.<\/p>\n
