\"\"<\/a>California:<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The body of Vikram Mubayi, a brilliant Indian-origin PhD student at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), who went missing while hiking in the famous Big Pine Lakes area of \u200b\u200bCalifornia, USA, has been recovered. The cause of his death is currently under thorough investigation by local authorities, and the investigation so far has found no signs of criminal activity or foul play.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to reports, Vikram Mubayi last spoke to his family on the phone at around 8:30 pm on August 1st. During this conversation, he shared the GPS coordinates of his current location with his family. When he did not return to his location at the scheduled time and his family was unable to contact him, he was officially declared missing. Immediately afterward, the Inyo County Search and Rescue Team and the California Highway Patrol jointly launched a massive search operation. Finally, after a fierce search, his body was recovered on the evening of August 3rd.<\/span><\/p>\n

Investigating agencies have not yet officially released the exact cause of his death. However, based on preliminary investigations and the circumstances at the scene, officials say there are no signs of foul play, foul play, or any other wrongdoing. A detailed and technical investigation by the police and administration is still underway.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vikram Mubayi was born in Hong Kong. A condolence post shared by his family on the social media platform Reddit described him as a “highly experienced hiker.” According to his personal biography published on the website of Illini 4000, a student-run nonprofit organization, he loved outdoor sports and spending time in nature.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his biography, Vikram himself mentioned that his mother introduced him to sports like hiking and tennis soon after he learned to walk. His professional profile also reveals that he was not only a hiker but also a highly skilled and experienced cyclist with a keen interest in a variety of adventure activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before beginning his PhD studies and research at the University of California (UCSB), Vikram completed his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2022. During his studies at UIUC, he also served as an undergraduate research assistant and teaching assistant at the prestigious Burke Laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to his LinkedIn profile, he was currently pursuing research at UCSB on a key environmental and scientific topic. He was investigating the decomposition of plant, agricultural, and plastic waste using bacteria and other natural biological methods.
