Held at Utsav Restaurant on August 15<sup>th<\/sup>, the retreat brought together AAPI\u2019s senior leadership, distinguished speakers, and members from across the country for an afternoon dedicated to collaboration, strategic vision, and strengthening organizational unity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hosted by AAPI President Dr. Meher Medavaram, the retreat underscored AAPI\u2019s commitment to advancing physician leadership, enhancing community engagement, and shaping the future of Indo\u2011U.S. healthcare collaboration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her address, Dr. Medavaram said, \u201cAs physicians, we are trained to diagnose, treat, and heal. But our responsibility\u2014and our potential\u2014extends far beyond the walls of our clinics and hospitals. Clinical excellence gives physicians credibility. Leadership gives us the opportunity to transform that knowledge into broader impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting the tone for the Retreat as a way to encourage the young physicians of Indian origin to come forward and take on leadership roles, Dr. Medavaram said,\u00a0 \u201cOne of our greatest opportunities today is to\u00a0develop the next generation of physician leaders\u2014not only in medicine, but in every field where decisions affecting healthcare and our communities are made. Step forward. Speak up. Get involved.\u00a0Leadership is developed through experience, mentorship, and the courage to accept responsibility. Sharma<\/strong>, Director of Interventional Cardiology at Mount Sinai, spoke on innovation, clinical excellence, and the evolving landscape of cardiovascular care. His remarks highlighted the critical role Indian American physicians play in advancing medical science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dr. Anil Sharma<\/strong>, Interventional Pain Physician, offered perspectives on multidisciplinary care and the importance of leadership in shaping patient\u2011centered practice models. A<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>very successful physician and running a successful Hedge Fund, Dr. Sharma spoke about how physicians can diversify in other areas and shine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dr. Padmini Murthy<\/strong>, Global Health leader and Professor Emeritus of Public Health, emphasized the importance of physician advocacy that enhances effective public health policies, global engagement, and the need for<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>uplifting humanity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cHealthcare leadership today requires not only clinical expertise but a commitment to global responsibility,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she noted, underscoring AAPI\u2019s longstanding role in international health initiatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The retreat was chaired by Dr. Sunita Polelalle, with AAPI Past President Dr. Dayan Naik serving as Co\u2011Chair. With over 125,000 physicians of Indian origin represented across the United States, AAPI continues to serve as a powerful voice in healthcare policy, medical education, and community service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The retreat also highlighted AAPI\u2019s partnerships, including support from Mount Sinai and Ameriprise, reflecting the organization\u2019s strong institutional relationships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lunch was served as members engaged in informal discussions, strengthening bonds that span specialties, generations, and regions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>AAPI at the India Day Parade<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Leadership Retreat served as the prelude to AAPI\u2019s participation in the India Day Parade on August 16, celebrating India\u2019s 80th Independence Day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AAPI members and leadership led the AAPI float on Madison Avenue on the following day, dressed in traditional attire and representing the unity, heritage, and pride of the Indian American physician community.
