\"\"<\/a>Kolkata:<\/strong> During the Karam Utsav celebrations held in Purulia, West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a series of measures concerning the Kudmi community, including the withdrawal of cases registered in connection with earlier protests and increased government support for community development.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said criminal and other cases registered against members of the Kudmi community during agitations under the previous government would be withdrawn. He also said the state government would pursue the inclusion of the Kudmali and Rajbanshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister alleged that the previous government had failed to adequately address the concerns raised by the Kudmi community. He said the new administration would initiate steps to withdraw cases registered against participants in earlier Kudmi agitations.<\/p>\n

The government has also earmarked \u20b950 crore in the current financial year’s budget for welfare and development programmes benefiting the community. According to the announcement, the allocation could be increased in the coming years depending on requirements and the implementation of development projects.<\/p>\n

The government also plans to revive the Kudmi Development Board, which will be tasked with implementing programmes aimed at improving education, infrastructure and social welfare.<\/p>\n

The Kudmi community has organised a series of protests in the western districts of West Bengal over its longstanding demands. Some of these demonstrations included road and railway blockades.<\/p>\n

Among the principal demands raised by organisations representing the community are Scheduled Tribe status for Kudmis and greater constitutional recognition for Kudmali, their traditional language.<\/p>\n

At the Purulia event, the Chief Minister said commitments concerning the Kudmi community that were included in the government’s election manifesto would be implemented in a phased and time-bound manner.<\/p>\n

He said the administration would focus on measures intended to protect and promote the community’s social, economic and cultural interests while expanding development initiatives in areas with significant Kudmi populations.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s intention to seek the inclusion of Kudmali and Rajbanshi in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.<\/p>\n

He said the state would present its case to the Central Government regarding constitutional recognition for Kudmali, which is spoken particularly in parts of western West Bengal, as well as Rajbanshi, which has a significant presence in North Bengal.<\/p>\n

The government said the proposed \u20b950 crore allocation would support initiatives in areas including education, infrastructure and social welfare. The planned reactivation of the Kudmi Development Board is expected to provide an institutional mechanism for implementing and coordinating these programmes.<\/p>\n
