\"\"<\/a>New Delhi:<\/strong> According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon withdrew from all eight states of Northeast India on Thursday. The withdrawal occurred around the normal time, but the entire northeastern region recorded 26 percent less rainfall than normal between June and September this year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, following heavy rain and thunderstorms in Delhi-NCR on Thursday, the weather department has forecast further rain and thunderstorms for Friday, October 16.<\/p>\n

According to the IMD, temperatures in Northeast India will now gradually begin to fall, with winter conditions expected to become noticeable towards the end of November. Last year, in 2025, the monsoon withdrew from all northeastern states on October 14.<\/p>\n

According to IMD data, the eight northeastern states collectively received 26 percent less rainfall than normal during this year’s monsoon season. The region comprises Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.<\/p>\n

Meghalaya recorded the highest rainfall deficit at 60 percent, followed by Manipur at 46 percent, Arunachal Pradesh at 44 percent, and Assam at 28 percent. Meghalaya received only 1,077.1 mm of rainfall during the monsoon season, compared to its normal rainfall of 2,695.3 mm, representing a deficit of 60 percent.<\/p>\n

Rainfall patterns varied across the remaining northeastern states. Sikkim recorded 9 percent more rainfall than normal, while Nagaland received 6 percent more. Meanwhile, Mizoram recorded a rainfall deficit of 19 percent, and Tripura received 16 percent less rainfall than normal.<\/p>\n

According to IMD standards, rainfall ranging from 19 percent below normal to 19 percent above normal is classified as normal. Therefore, despite recording rainfall deficits, Mizoram and Tripura fall within the normal rainfall category.<\/p>\n

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country recorded a total of 759.4 mm of rainfall during the southwest monsoon season from June to September 2026. This was equivalent to 87 percent of the long-period average (LPA). According to departmental data, it was the country’s fourth-lowest monsoon rainfall total since 2001 and the 13th-lowest since 1901.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, weather conditions in Delhi-NCR changed significantly on Thursday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms affecting several areas. The IMD issued an orange alert as the sky became overcast and adverse weather conditions developed.<\/p>\n

The Meteorological Department has also forecast rain and thunderstorms in Delhi for Friday, October 16. According to the IMD forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in some parts of North and Northwest Delhi.<\/p>\n

During this period, winds are expected to blow at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour. Light rain and thunderstorms are also possible in other parts of the national capital.<\/p>\n
