Bhuvneshwar Kumar was unexpectedly included in the squad for the fifth and final T20I against the West Indies. However, the match was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled, depriving him of the opportunity to showcase his bowling skills. He is now set to make a strong comeback against New Zealand in Christchurch. Bhuvneshwar last played in a major international tournament during the 2022 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, after which he was dropped from the team. Following his return after nearly four years, former captain Rohit Sharma extended his best wishes in an exclusive interview, expressing confidence that Bhuvneshwar would deliver an exceptional performance during the challenging New Zealand tour.

Veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has earned this remarkable opportunity through his outstanding performances in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he claimed 17 wickets in the 2025 season and an impressive 28 wickets in the 2026 season. Bhuvneshwar’s bowling played a crucial role in RCB’s historic victories in both seasons. Recognising his consistent and impressive performances, the selectors have once again given him the opportunity to represent India at the international level. As the team prepares to compete on New Zealand soil, expectations will be high for the experienced pacer to deliver early breakthroughs with his trademark swing bowling.
