Chicago: The Knanaya Catholic Region of the Chicago Syro-Malabar Diocese has expressed profound grief and condolences on the passing of Rev. Fr. Joseph Meledath, a priest of the Kottayam Archdiocese and a pivotal figure in the growth of the Knanaya Catholic community in the United States. Ordained for the Kottayam Archdiocese, Fr. Joseph Meledath served as a parish priest in various parishes and also as the Director of the Kottayam Social Service Society. Throughout his priestly life, he worked with a devoted spirit for the church and society, making notable contributions in spiritual, social, and charitable fields.<\/p>\n

Fr. Joseph arrived in Houston, USA, in 1994 and played a decisive role in uniting Knanaya Catholic families, which were then scattered across various parts of Texas, and in developing them into a well-organized faith community. As the Knanaya Mission Director, he brought together Knanaya families in Houston and Dallas, laying a strong foundation for their spiritual and social life. Alongside facilitating the Holy Qurbana and other spiritual services, he placed special emphasis on fostering fellowship and mutual support among families.<\/p>\n

The early ministries of Fr. Joseph hold historic importance in the formation and growth of the Knanaya Catholic communities now thriving in Houston and Dallas. Subsequently, he also served as a priest in the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese. After a long tenure of priestly service, he retired and returned to the Kottayam Archdiocese, where he lived a life of retirement at the Viani Home in Kottayam.<\/p>\n

His priestly ministry, which began in Kerala and extended to the United States, stood as a model of dedication and service. The Knanaya Region leadership recalled that his leadership and spiritual support for the early growth of the Knanaya Catholic community in Texas would always be remembered.<\/p>\n

The venerable fathers of the Chicago Syro-Malabar Diocese and the Knanaya Catholic Region offer their heartfelt condolences and prayers to Fr. Joseph\u2019s family, relatives, friends, and the faith communities he served, as conveyed by Knanaya Catholic Region Director Fr. Thomas Mulavanal. The Knanaya Catholic Region prayed that God grant eternal peace to the soul of Rev. Fr. Joseph Meledath and divine solace to all who mourn his passing.<\/p>\n
