Unexpected Waterfall Emerges in Desert; Rare Natural Wonder in Utah, USA

Salt Lake City: The Gunlock Waterfall in Utah, USA, which flows very rarely during the year, has unexpectedly become active again. Following heavy rainfall, numerous visitors are arriving to witness the rare spectacle of water gushing through a dry area filled with red sandstone cliffs. This natural phenomenon is located in Gunlock State Park near the city of St. George, Utah. Normally, the waterfall is visible in the springtime when the water level in nearby reservoirs rises. However, this time it has become active in November, which is unusual. The waterfall’s activation resulted from the heavy rains received in southern Utah in October and the first week of November. The water level in the Gunlock Reservoir rose and exceeded its storage capacity, causing excess water to flow down the red sandstone formations. According to state park officials, the waterfall has been active only six times in the last 15 years. Officials also confirm that such a sight in November is extremely rare. It has been reported that the water level in the reservoir has risen by approximately 27 feet over five weeks. The unusual rainfall in southwestern Utah since early October has been the cause. Images of water flowing powerfully amid red sandstone formations have attracted attention on social media as well. Tourists from nearby areas and other states are visiting to witness this extraordinary natural display. At the same time, authorities have issued warnings to exercise extreme caution near the waterfall. Strong currents, slippery rocks, submerged tree branches, and other debris increase the risk of accidents. On November 2nd, rescue personnel safely evacuated two individuals who had become trapped while attempting to cross the river near the waterfall by vehicle. Authorities advise avoiding climbing the rocks or jumping into the water near the falls. This rare water flow event in the desert-like area stands as a significant example of how rapidly climate changes can alter natural landscapes.
