Kolkata: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister John Barla has switched sides to the Trinamool Congress. Barla, who won from Alipurduar twice, was not given a ticket in the last Lok Sabha elections. Manoj Tigga, who contested instead, won. Meanwhile, John Barla also attended an event attended by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee the other day.
Barla, who was the Minister of State for Minority Affairs in the previous government, started out as a tea worker.
Barla was one of the tribal faces of BJP. Barla said that BJP is not giving him a chance to work for the people. Meanwhile, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari mocked John Barla, saying that he did not even get 2 votes in his own booth.
