Hyderabad: A comment by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has created a stir in political circles. He said that when a person turns 75, he should stop himself and leave the way for others. He said this at a book release program in Nagpur.
Mohan Bhagwat’s statement has given birth to a new debate. The meaning of this statement is being interpreted in political corridors. Should there be an age limit in politics as well? The special thing is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reached close to that age now. PM Modi and Mohan Bhagwat will turn 75 in September this year.
At a book release dedicated to the late RSS ideologue Moropant Pingle in Nagpur on Wednesday, July 9, Bhagwat reminded that Pingle had once said, ‘When a shawl of 75 years is draped over us, it means that we have grown old and should now step aside a bit.’ The RSS chief said that despite his dedication to national service, Moropant believed in humbly stepping back when the time came.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat described late Sangh ideologue Moropant Pingle as ‘the epitome of complete selflessness’. At a book release function in Nagpur, Bhagwat praised Pingle’s ‘silent dedication’ towards nation building and his ability to connect with people of different ideologies. After releasing the book ‘Moropant Pingle: The Architect of Hindu Resurgence’, Bhagwat recalled his unique ability to explain complex ideas in simple language.
Bhagwat said, “Moropant was the epitome of complete selflessness. He did many things thinking that these works would help in nation building.” Citing Pingle’s predictions during the political churning after the Emergency, Bhagwat said, “When the issue of elections came up for discussion, Moropant had said that if all the opposition parties came together, about 276 seats could be won. When the results came, the number of seats won was only 276.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday expressed apprehension that all is not well between the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on the statement of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. She said that this comment is an indirect message for Prime Minister Modi, who will turn 75 later this year.
