Kinshasa. At least 21 people were killed in a terrorist attack on a church complex in Komanda town of eastern Congo on Sunday morning. The Islamic State-backed group ADF is believed to be responsible for the attack. Coordinator of the local civil organization Dieudonne Duranthabo said that fighters of the Allied Democratic Force entered the church complex at 1 am. Many people were shot, some bodies were found burnt. Houses and shops were also burnt.
Komanda is located in Ituri province. Here Congo army spokesperson Lieutenant Jules Ngongo also confirmed the death of 10 people. He said that the attackers entered the church, targeted people and set shops on fire. Duranthabo said, “We are shocked. This attack took place despite the presence of so many security forces. We have been told that the attackers are still present near the city. We demand immediate military action.”
