Owaisi’s political stature grows, India Bloc decides to distance itself, could change the game in Bihar elections

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s party has announced its candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025. In 2020, Owaisi’s party surprised everyone by winning five seats in Seemanchal, although four MLAs defected to the RJD.

Owaisi claimed that he had approached India Bloc three times and offered to contest six seats, without demanding ministerial positions. Despite this, the RJD refused to include him in the alliance, calling him a “B-team.”

Taking aim at Tejashwi Yadav, Owaisi said that when four of his MLAs joined RJD, there was no objection, but there was an uproar when MLAs from BJP or Shiv Sena were taken in.

AIMIM Bihar chief Akhtarul Iman said that several attempts were made to form an alliance, but the India Bloc indicated it would not allow him to contest the elections this time. Owaisi said his entry into the alliance was necessary to prevent the division of Muslim votes.

Political analysts say Owaisi’s aggressive image could consolidate the Hindu vote, hurting the India Bloc. Furthermore, an alliance with AIMIM could provide an electoral issue for the BJP and attract the Muslim vote bank to Owaisi’s party.

For this reason, RJD and Congress in Bihar currently want to maintain distance from Owaisi, so that a big vote bank is not lost.
