Patna: Ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the AIMIM has announced its second candidate in the Seemanchal region. Asaduddin Owaisi has fielded Ghulam Sarwar from the Baisi assembly seat in Purnia district. Previously, the party had fielded Rana Ranjit Singh from the Dhaka seat in East Champaran.
Ghulam Sarwar has previously contested the Byasi seat. In 2015, he secured nearly 16,000 votes on an AIMIM ticket. In the 2020 elections, he ran as an independent candidate and secured fourth place with approximately 5,000 votes. Syed Ruknuddin Ahmed of the AIMIM won the Byasi seat in 2020, but later joined the RJD. This time too, a triangular contest is expected, as the NDA and the Grand Alliance have not yet announced their candidates.
Asaduddin Owaisi reached Baisi on Friday as part of his “Seemanchal Nyay Yatra” and addressed street corner meetings. He appealed to the public to ensure Ghulam Sarwar’s victory. Owaisi said, “AIMIM will contest the elections strongly this time and prevent the BJP from coming to power.”
Taking aim at the Grand Alliance, he said, “We had expressed our desire to join the alliance, but were denied a place. Now everyone knows who the BJP’s B-team is in Bihar.”
AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman had written a letter to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and also sent a message through the media, requesting him to join the Grand Alliance. The party had demanded six seats in the alliance, but after receiving no response, it decided to contest the elections alone.
Before the by-election, Owaisi had already given Rana Ranjit Singh a ticket from the Dhaka seat in East Champaran in May 2025. The Muslim-centric AIMIM has fielded a Hindu candidate here. Rana Ranjit comes from the Rajput community and is campaigning vigorously in the area.
Political experts believe that Owaisi’s strategy could challenge the equations of both the NDA and the Grand Alliance.
