SCBA takes action against Rakesh Kishore for throwing shoe at CJI, terminates his membership

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court Bar Association on Thursday announced the immediate termination of Rakesh Kishore’s membership. Kishore had attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice BR Gavai in the courtroom. During the incident, he also shouted the slogan “We will not tolerate any insult to Sanatan Dharma.” This is considered extremely serious from the point of view of the security and decorum of the court.

The SCBA stated that Kishore’s highly inappropriate, disorderly, and exaggerated behavior was a direct attack on judicial independence. The Bar Association considered this a serious violation of professional conduct, the dignity of the court, and the reputation of the Supreme Court. The SCBA Executive Committee issued a statement saying, “This incident amounts to a direct attack on the dignity of the court, judicial independence, and the long-standing mutual respect and trust between the Bar and the Bench. Rakesh Kishore’s continued membership of the SCBA is not in keeping with the dignity and discipline expected of this institution.”
