Washington: The US has been under a government shutdown for nearly a month. Millions of families are awaiting government aid, but President Donald Trump is making headlines for his lavish construction projects. A massive new ballroom is being completed at the White House at a cost of $300 million, which has now drawn sharp criticism from former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris said that while the country’s poor families are struggling, Trump is indulging in his royal desires using taxpayer money. This is grossly unfair. Not only the new ballroom, President Trump has also completely renovated the White House’s Lincoln Bathroom. Sharing photos on his social media platform, Truth Social, he said the bathroom now sparkles with marble and gold decorations.
This bathroom is located on the second floor of the White House, right next to the Lincoln Bedroom. It’s said to be where Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, once worked. This nearly 80-year-old bathroom originally featured light green tiles and simple strip lights.
Trump wrote in his post that the Lincoln bathroom was built in the 1940s with green tile and an Art Deco style, which was completely inappropriate for Lincoln’s era. According to him, the bathroom is now decorated with black-and-white statuary marble, gold faucets, and gold-framed mirrors. Trump claimed that this design is in keeping with the spirit of the Lincoln era and that the same marble was used as was originally there.
Trump’s changes to the White House have sparked debate. Supporters say he’s revitalizing a historic legacy, while critics see them as a display of ostentation and luxury. Many analysts believe such grand renovations, amid a government shutdown and economic pressures, send the wrong message to the public.
