Thiruvananthapuram: In order to improve the physical condition of the public education sector in Kerala, administrative approval has been given for development activities worth Rs 275.02 crore in the financial year 2025-26, said General Education and Employment Minister V. Sivankutty. This amount will be used for renovation and related facilities of schools in various categories in the state. Rs 165.45 crore has been allocated for the development of 147 secondary schools, Rs 41.86 crore for 46 higher secondary schools. Along with this, Rs 9.58 crore has been allocated for 19 vocational higher secondary schools, and Rs 3.47 crore for emergency repairs of 19 schools.
Special emphasis was also given to the preservation of heritage schools and Rs. 3.79 crore was transferred for 4 historic schools. Rs. 37.10 crore has been allocated for 28 schools for various activities allocated in the budget and Rs. 3.77 crore has been allocated for designing 31 schools as disability-friendly schools. These projects are a guide to ensure quality educational facilities and provide a safe and friendly learning environment for all students by the government.
Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the purchase of necessary furniture, lab equipment, sports equipment, musical instruments, etc. for schools in all 14 districts. This step is part of the government’s declared goal of transforming public schools into knowledge centers of the highest quality. The government reiterated its commitment to completing development works in a timely manner and providing a beneficial experience to students.
