Mahatma Gandhi Statue Unveiled for the First Time in North Dakota

Bismarck (North Dakota): The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in Peace Park, North Dakota, marking the first Gandhi statue established in the state. The idea originated when Indian Consul General Prakash Gupta visited Peace Park. Noticing a plaque from the previously active 'Gandhi Peace Network' at the site, he suggested that installing a statue of Gandhi there would be appropriate. Subsequently, the statue, made in India, was brought to Bismarck. Members of the Indian-American community, representatives of Bismarck Parks and Recreation, North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goring, and officials from the Indian Consulate in Seattle participated in the ceremony. To help visitors understand Gandhi’s life and his inspiration for Martin Luther King Jr., a QR code system was set up near the statue. By scanning the QR code, visitors can listen to Gandhi’s speeches and learn about his messages. Prakash Gupta stated that this monument will stand as a symbol of friendship between India and North Dakota.
