Washington: Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, the growing tension in relations between the US and Ukraine has come into the headlines due to another controversy. The meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at the White House was already considered tense, but a journalist’s question further heated up the atmosphere. The question was about Zelensky’s attire, on hearing which the Ukrainian President got furious. After this question, this meeting held at the White House turned into a heated debate.
In fact, Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the White House as usual in a military-style T-shirt and trousers. An American journalist asked him, ‘Why don’t you wear a suit? Don’t you have a suit?’ People present there were shocked to hear this question. US President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and many officials laughed on hearing this. But Zelensky did not like this question. He replied in a sharp tone, ‘Do you have a problem?’ To this the journalist said that ‘many Americans have a problem with the fact that a person does not follow the dress code at an important place like the White House.’
Zelensky replied, ‘When this war is over, I will wear a suit. Maybe like you, or even better, maybe I will wear a cheaper one, let’s see.’ During this, Donald Trump tried to lighten the atmosphere by saying, I like your outfit. But the controversy did not end here. A big debate broke out on this issue on social media. Many people asked that if Elon Musk can come to the cabinet meeting wearing a T-shirt and cap, then why was Zelensky’s outfit questioned?
The real purpose of this meeting was to negotiate a deal regarding rare earth minerals present in Ukraine. America wanted Ukraine to allow it access to its mineral resources, which would strengthen its tech and defense industry. But Zelensky was not ready for this. During this, there was a lot of debate between the two leaders. When US Vice President J.D. Vance advised to find a diplomatic solution with Russia, Zelensky got angry. He said that if America cannot put pressure on Russia to stop the war, then it should not expect cooperation from Ukraine.
