Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Ghana’s highest civilian award, ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’. President John Mahama conferred the award on him. Mr Modi thanked the President of Ghana for the honour and called it a ‘matter of immense pride’. Prime Minister Modi agreed with Ghana’s President Mahama to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership. The top leaders of the two countries decided to enhance cooperation in areas such as defence, security, skill development and agriculture.
Accepting the award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, the Prime Minister dedicated this honour to the aspirations of India’s youth, its cultural traditions and diversity, and the historic ties between Ghana and India. Modi thanked the people and government of Ghana for this special honour. The Prime Minister said that this award further deepens the friendship between the two countries and puts a new responsibility on him to take bilateral relations forward. He said that he is confident that his historic state visit to Ghana will give new momentum to the relations between the two countries. Modi said in a post on social media that he is proud to be awarded the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.
