New Delhi: Is Madhya Pradesh’s ‘mama’ Shivraj Singh Chauhan now moving towards the chair of the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party? This question is resonating like a storm in the political corridors of Delhi. The 45-minute meeting of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan at Jhandewalan in Delhi on Sunday evening has fuelled this discussion further.
On the evening of 25 August 2025, the weather in Delhi was pleasant, but there was a heated atmosphere in political circles. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reached Keshavkunj, the headquarters of RSS. There he met RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat. This meeting was not a common one. This secret meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, raised the eyebrows of political pundits. If sources are to be believed, this meeting may be related to the election of the National President of BJP, which is to be held in September 2025. This meeting of Shivraj and Mohan Bhagwat is also special because such a long conversation between the two took place after almost two years. There are often discussions about coordination between BJP and RSS, and this time Shivraj’s name has come to the fore in the race for the post of President. Was this meeting a green signal for Shivraj or was it just a formal meeting? There are many questions, but the search for answers is still on.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan was very busy in Delhi on Sunday. Before the meeting, he attended a program of Gayatri Parivar at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan. Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Dr. Chinmay Pandya of Gayatri Parivar were also present with him on the stage. In this program, Shivraj won everyone’s heart with his simplicity and deep talks, but as soon as the program ended, he left directly for the RSS office. After the meeting with Mohan Bhagwat, Shivraj left for Delhi International Airport without stopping. The next day, i.e. on 25 August 2025, he attended the convocation of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Bhopal?
There has been a discussion in BJP about the national president for the last one year. After the tenure of JP Nadda, the party is looking for a new face, but due to the lack of coordination between RSS and BJP leadership, this process was getting stuck again and again. Now Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s name is being considered strong in this race because he is not only an experienced leader, but his relations with RSS are also old and strong. Shivraj’s political journey also gives more weight to his claim. His record of being the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for 17 years, his popularity among the public and now his work as the Union Agriculture Minister, all these make him a strong contender. On top of this, his latest meeting with Mohan Bhagwat is an indication that RSS also probably considers Shivraj ready for this big role.
BJP and RSS are trying to complete the election of the national president before 28 September 2025. After the Vice Presidential election on 9 September, there is hope of speeding up in this direction. There is also a discussion in political circles that apart from Shivraj, some other names are also in the race, but this meeting of his is being considered a big move in his favor.
Political experts believe that Shivraj’s simplicity, his hold on the organization and his old relationship with RSS keep him ahead in this race. Also, he comes from Central India, which is a strategic area for BJP. But some people are also saying that this meeting can be just formal, and BJP can also bring forward a surprising name.
