Asia Cup 2025: The countdown for the Asia Cup Cricket Tournament 2025 has begun. The final of this prestigious tournament, which is going to start in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9, will be played on September 28. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced the team. This time Suryakumar Yadav will captain the 15-member Indian squad, while Shubman Gill has been given the responsibility of vice-captain.
The selectors have kept five players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel in the standby list. There were initial speculations that these players could go to UAE with the team, but BCCI has made it clear that they will not travel with the main squad. According to a senior official, the team management wants to travel with a limited number of players. Standby players can be called later if needed.
Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are already present in the team as openers. In such a situation, Jaiswal will get a chance only if an opener gets injured. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana have been selected in the fast bowling department. Therefore, Prasidh Krishna is being seen only as a backup.
Though the team was allowed to include up to 17 players in the Asia Cup, the selectors relied on only 15. The players have to leave directly from their respective cities to Dubai and will join together on September 4. The team’s first practice session will be held at the ICC Academy on September 5.
India will play its first match against hosts UAE on September 10. After this, a high-voltage match will be played against Pakistan in Dubai on September 14. The Indian team will play its last match of the group stage against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19. After this, the top four teams will enter the Super-4 and then the top two teams will clash for the title match.
