Rahul Gandhi reacts, political battle intensifies over ‘dog controversy’ in Parliament

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi’s reaction to the dog controversy has been heated in Parliament since day one. The controversy that erupted after Congress MP Renuka Chowdhary brought a dog into the Parliament complex has now become a major political issue. BJP leader Jagdambika Pal called it a violation of Parliamentary decorum and demanded action. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi further escalated the debate in the Lok Sabha today by reacting to this issue.

Speaking to the media, Rahul Gandhi said, “The dog is the main topic today. What did the poor dog do? Are dogs not allowed here? Maybe pets aren’t allowed. I think these are the things India is discussing these days.” His statement drew a sharp reaction from the BJP.

Renuka Chowdhary arrived at Parliament on the first day of the winter session with a puppy, prompting the BJP to question the dignity of Parliament. In response, Renuka Chowdhary said she had placed the puppy in the car to save it from a road accident. She also said the controversy was being unnecessarily stirred up and that the real “biters” were sitting in Parliament—a statement that further fueled the controversy.

BJP MP Sambit Patra held a press conference to respond to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks. He said that Rahul Gandhi should review his and Renuka Chowdhary’s statements on television and understand his own conduct. Patra claimed that Rahul Gandhi failed to acknowledge that such actions are not permitted in Parliament.
