Pathanamthitta: CPM is preparing to file a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the Potty parody song. The decision was taken in today’s secretariat meeting. The complaint will be filed by Pradeep Verma, a member of the Pandalam area committee and a member of the Pandalam royal family. Although the government had previously temporarily backed down from taking strict action against the activists behind the parody song, the decision to approach the Election Commission has now been confirmed. The filing of the case had led to widespread criticism. However, the decision has been made to issue notices and summon the accused and remove the song from the sites.
There are two arguments within the police regarding the acceptance of the case. The Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police registered the case after finding that religious hatred was created in a way that insulted the Sharanam Mantra. The case was registered based on the complaint of Prasad Kuzhikal, the public secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram Thiruvabharanampatha Samrakshana Samiti. The list of accused in the case has been prepared after seeking legal advice.
Lyricist Kunjabdulla, singer Danish, producer Subair Pantalloor and their CMS Media are the accused in the case. A case has been registered under sections of causing religious enmity and hurting faith. It has also been stated in the FIR that the Ayyappa song and the Sharanam mantra were insulted. The case is based on the report of the Cyber Police SP. It is noteworthy that the song, which was released during the election, went viral after UDF leaders sang it after the results were announced.
The decision to file a complaint against the CPM song is related to the allegations that it hurt religious sentiments and was an attempt to gain votes. The party supported the complaint of the Thiruvabharanam Path Samrakshana Samiti Jana Secretary. However, the committee chairman, Hindu Aikya Vedi District President, came forward and rejected the complaint. In this regard, a demand has also been raised for an investigation into the complainant’s organization. It has been informed that an investigation will be conducted into the organization of the complainant Prasad Kuzhikkala and the complaint has been handed over to the IG of the Registration Department.
