KK Shailaja will contest from Peravoor in the assembly elections; decision taken at the district secretariat meeting

Kannur: Former minister KK Shailaja will contest from Peravoor in the assembly elections as the CPI(M) candidate. The decision was taken at the district secretariat meeting. Shailaja will be contesting from Peravoor instead of the current constituency of Mattanur. DYFI state secretary VK Sanoj will contest from Mattanur.

KK Shailaja reacted to the news that she will contest as a CPM candidate in Peravoor. Shailaja said that whoever stands as a Left Front candidate in Peravoor, the sitting seat of the KPCC President, will win. The party will decide the party candidate. The party’s state secretariat will meet tomorrow. The party will announce the list of candidates on the 8th. KK Shailaja also said that Peravoor is a constituency where the Left can win.

Peravoor is the constituency where KPCC President Sunny Joseph has won all three times. The constituency, which is a stronghold of the UDF, is being sought by the Left to field the popular Shailaja. Shailaja, who contested and won from Peravoor in 2006, lost to Sunny Joseph in 2011. There are indications that Sunny Joseph will be the UDF candidate in Peravoor this time too. If so, Peravoor will witness a tough contest.
