New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that he held a high-level meeting with MPs from Assam on the flood situation in various parts of the state. He also assured that the central government is working diligently with the state government to provide all possible assistance to the affected people.
Prime Minister Modi, in a post on the social media platform X, offered his prayers for the safety and well-being of the people. He wrote that he met with MPs from Assam to review the current flood situation and that the central government stands firmly with the state in this hour of crisis.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam’s Sivasagar district remains grim. In Naujan village, floodwaters have entered residential areas and homes, completely submerging main roads. Hundreds of families are struggling to find safe shelter, food, and safe drinking water, even as authorities have significantly intensified relief and rescue operations.
In this hour of crisis, the MLAs of Assam have taken a commendable decision and the MLAs of all the political parties except Raijor Dal have officially announced to donate their one month’s salary for the relief and rehabilitation work of the flood victims.
- Speaker of the Assembly Ranjit Kumar Dass announced that he and Deputy Speaker Habbe Teron will donate one month’s salary to the flood relief fund. Additionally, all officers and employees of the Assembly Secretariat will also donate one day’s salary to help the victims.
- Parliamentary Affairs Minister’s Statement: Welcoming this humanitarian initiative, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika clarified that all Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs will also donate one month’s salary. Furthermore, Sherman Ali Ahmed, the lone Trinamool Congress MLA in the state, has also come forward and announced a month’s salary donation to help the flood-affected areas.
