New Delhi: The path has been cleared for the implementation of the “Delhi Lakshmi Yojana,” launched with the aim of economically empowering women in Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented official acceptance letters to approximately 2,500 eligible women during a grand ceremony held at Talkatora Stadium on August 26. Sixty-five women were invited on stage and personally handed the letters, while the remaining beneficiaries will receive them before September 1.
Giving an update on the progress of the scheme, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that under the scheme, which began on August 1st, eligible women will be provided financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month. Following the initial 2,500 acceptance letters issued at Talkatora Stadium, the process of opening beneficiaries’ bank accounts and CBDC digital wallets has been expedited. Funds will begin being transferred directly to women’s accounts from September 1st.
Fulfilling a promise made during the assembly elections, the government also shared details of registration figures. So far, 920,590 women have registered under the scheme, of which 663,215 applications have been finally submitted.
According to the government, beneficiary letters have been distributed based on the approved applications in the first phase. In the coming days, as the verification and eligibility process is completed, all other applicants will be covered. The administration says that this scheme is being implemented across the city in a transparent and smooth manner, keeping in mind the dignity, safety, and financial independence of women.
