Cristiano Ronaldo Reportedly Handed 30-Day Ban and Fine for Leaving Portugal National Team Camp

Lisbon: Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been handed a 30-day suspension and a financial penalty following allegations that he left the national team’s training camp without permission. According to reports, the Portuguese Football Federation took disciplinary action against the veteran forward and imposed a fine of €255 (approximately ₹26,000).

The controversy reportedly began during the recent international break following disagreements between Ronaldo and the coaching staff. Reports suggest that Ronaldo had expected to play approximately 30 minutes in Portugal’s match against Norway. The coaching staff had reportedly indicated that he would be given an opportunity to feature in the game.

Ronaldo had prepared for the match with the expectation of making an appearance. However, changes in the team’s tactical approach during the game meant that he was not brought onto the field. According to reports, the coaching staff prioritized protecting Portugal’s lead rather than introducing the experienced forward.

The decision to leave Ronaldo on the bench reportedly caused considerable frustration. Following the match, the Portuguese captain is said to have expressed his disappointment during a discussion with the coaching staff.

Reports further claim that Ronaldo demanded a public apology from the coach over the incident. However, his request was reportedly rejected.

The disagreement allegedly escalated when Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp ahead of the team’s next match against Denmark. His departure was reportedly viewed as a violation of the national team’s disciplinary regulations.

Following his departure from the training camp, Ronaldo reportedly apologized to his teammates and supporters.

According to the reports, the football star acknowledged that leaving the national team camp at such a crucial time was an inappropriate decision and accepted responsibility for his actions.

Ronaldo also reportedly recognized that, as an experienced player and a role model for younger footballers, he had a responsibility to maintain professional standards.

He was said to have expressed his willingness to accept any disciplinary measures imposed in connection with the incident.

According to the report, the Portuguese Football Federation initiated disciplinary proceedings on October 10. Following an investigation, the federation reportedly decided to impose a 30-day suspension along with a financial penalty.

The suspension is said to have taken effect retrospectively from September 30, the date Ronaldo allegedly left the national team camp.

If the reported suspension dates are accurate, Ronaldo would be eligible to return for Portugal’s next international fixture scheduled for November 14.

Although the €255 fine would represent a relatively insignificant amount compared with Ronaldo’s substantial earnings, the reported disciplinary action could potentially affect his reputation and relationship with the national team.
