Rabada Returns to Test Cricket After Five Months, Proves His Mettle with the Ball Once Again

South Africa’s world-renowned fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has achieved a historic milestone in international cricket. The formidable pacer, who returned to action following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, made headlines with his impressive bowling performance during the second Test against Australia. Rabada achieved the remarkable feat of completing 200 Test wickets on home soil, earning himself a place on the exclusive list of South Africa’s greatest bowlers.

Kagiso Rabada has become the fourth South African bowler to reach the 200-wicket mark in home Test matches. Before him, only legendary bowlers Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, and Dale Steyn had achieved this remarkable feat. Rabada needed just two wickets to reach the milestone, which he accomplished by dismissing Nic Maddinson and Mitchell Starc in the match against Australia. He has now taken over 200 wickets in just 38 home Test matches at an impressive average of around 20, including ten five-wicket hauls and four ten-wicket match hauls.

Turning to the other highlights of the match, South Africa staged a remarkable comeback in the second Test after losing the opening encounter. Thanks to captain Temba Bavuma’s brilliant 179-run innings, the visiting team declared their first innings at 425. The South African bowlers then produced a devastating performance, dismissing Australia for just 99 runs in their first innings and forcing them to follow on.

By the end of the fourth day’s play, Australia had reached 156 for four in their second innings, with Travis Head remaining unbeaten on 85. However, the hosts were still trailing by a considerable margin and would need to bat through the 90 overs scheduled for the fifth day to save the match.
