Couple arrested on charges of religious conversion

Karnataka:  A 28-year-old married woman has accused a Muslim couple of pressurizing her to convert to Islam. The woman says that the couple was forcing her to change her religion by threatening her with personal photographs. Once again the issue of religious conversion has come to light. A 28-year-old woman says she was married in 2013. She also has two children. In the year 2020, Rafiq came to her husband’s shop to buy goods. That was when she met him for the first time. After this Rafiq started coming to his shop often. Gradually she started talking to Rafiq, and later became a good friend. The matter did not stop at friendship, both of them fell in love and then also had physical relations between them. When the woman’s husband came to know about this, there was a fierce fight between the two.

After the fight the woman left her husband’s house. But after some two months the woman returned saying that she would not have anything to do with Rafiq. But Rafiq started threatening the woman by showing her personal photos. The woman and Rafiq started meeting again. When the woman’s husband came to know about this, there was a fierce fight between the two and the woman left the house. This time the woman reached Rafiq’s house. Rafiq was already married. The woman told that she started living with Rafiq and his wife in his house. 

She has been living with Rafiq and his wife in his house since 2021. In the statement given to the police, she said that meanwhile Rafiq had raped her several times in front of his wife. She told that whenever she raised objection, Rafiq started threatening her with personal photographs. But in the last few days, both of them have started pressurizing him to convert. She was asked to remove her kumkum and wear a burqa. He also used to ask the woman to offer Namaz five times a day. Both of them started pressurizing her to divorce her husband and convert to Islam and live with them. If he did not do so, he was threatened to make his photo viral.
