New Delhi: The election of the new national president of BJP can be held before the start of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 21. The exercise in this direction will intensify from next week. New state presidents will be elected in about 10 states. The election process of the national president is expected to start soon after this. Informal talks by senior BJP leaders have given clear indications that the election of the new president will not be postponed now. The monsoon session of Parliament is starting from July 21. Therefore, the process of electing a new national president in the organization will be completed before this. Actually, JP Nadda’s tenure as national president has ended in June 2024. He is on extension. At the same time, he is also a minister in the central government, due to which the BJP is preparing to elect a new president soon.
After August 15, the stir will start regarding Bihar elections. Therefore, BJP would like to elect a new national president before this because there should not be any confusion about the new national president after the assembly elections in Bihar. Party sources say that work is being done fast regarding the election of ten state presidents. By June 21, new presidents will be elected in many states, after which the election process for the national president will begin.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan: Shivraj Singh Chouhan has won the Lok Sabha elections 6 times. He has been the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh 4 times. As Chief Minister, he started the Ladli Behna Yojana, which proved to be a game changer in the assembly elections. This scheme became a role model for other states. He joined RSS at the age of 13 and also went to jail during the Emergency. He belongs to the OBC category. He was the President of Madhya Pradesh BJP in 2005. Shivraj is at the top of the RSS list.
Sunil Bansal: Sunil Bansal led the party to success as co-incharge of Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and then as incharge in 2017. Apart from this, his success as incharge of Odisha, Bengal and Telangana is also a big plus point. Sunil Bansal has been called the Chanakya of BJP in UP. Along with being close to the Sangh, he also has a good hold in the organization.
Dharmendra Pradhan: He is currently the Union Education Minister and an experienced organizer of BJP. Comes from Odisha, where BJP wants to strengthen its hold even more. Trusted member of Modi and Shah’s team. 40 years of political experience, is a big OBC leader. Joined ABVP at the age of 14 and became BJP’s National General Secretary in 2010. Strong hold in the organization, became Lok Sabha member twice and Rajya Sabha member twice.
Raghuvar Das: Raghuvar Das was the first non-tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He gave 5 years of stable rule in Jharkhand, which happened for the first time in the state. He has a strong hold on the ground workers and BJP organization. Coming from the OBC community, BJP can get a new edge in the social equation. Because of him, BJP can expand in the Northeast.
Smriti Irani: Has administrative experience along with handling many important ministries. Strong female face for the party. Good relations with RSS and effective in South India along with the Hindi belt.
Vanathi Srinivasan: Currently, she is the National President of BJP Mahila Morcha. As such, she has experience in organizational work. Has been associated with BJP since 1993. In Tamil Nadu, she defeated a big leader like Kamal Haasan from Coimbatore South seat. She has played an important role in strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu. Her husband Srinivasan has been the state minister of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. In such a situation, the family is very close to the Sangh and BJP.
Tamilisai Soundararajan: Has been associated with BJP since June 12, 2025. Has worked on many important posts including National Secretary. Has been the state president of BJP in Tamil Nadu (2014-2019). She is counted among the close leaders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Even while BJP was in opposition in Tamil Nadu, she has made an important contribution in the expansion of the party.
D. Purandeswari: She is the daughter of former Chief Minister and TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao. She first worked as a Union Minister while being in Congress, then joined BJP. Currently she is the Andhra Pradesh BJP President. By making her the National President, the party can benefit from the mass base of Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana).
The party constitution has a fixed rule and procedure for electing the National President in BJP. Due to the delay in fulfilling these rules, the election of the National President has not been held till now.
According to the party rules, the tenure of the BJP president is 3 years. A person cannot become the party president more than twice. In such a situation, the new party president will have to conduct 12 important elections during his tenure.
