New Delhi: Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi finally got his chance to debut for Team India in the second T20I against England. Vice-captain Tilak Verma presented him with the debut cap. Although he failed to score a big score in his first innings, scoring 14 runs, he achieved a record that even many legendary players of Indian cricket don’t hold.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed two magnificent sixes in his 14-run innings. The first came off England’s fastest bowler Jofra Archer, while the second came off a slower delivery from Josh Tongue.
With these two sixes, he became the sixth Indian batsman to hit more than one six on his T20 International debut. This achievement is considered special because very few Indian players are included in this list.
The names of Indian players who hit more than one six in their T20 international debut match include Ashish Nehra, Murali Vijay, Rahul Dravid, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Verma and now Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Rahul Dravid’s inclusion in this list is considered the most surprising. He scored 31 runs and hit three sixes in his only T20 International match. Ishan Kishan smashed four sixes on his debut, and Tilak Varma hit three sixes in his first T20I innings.
The most interesting thing about this unique record is that Indian team veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failed to hit more than one six in their T20I debuts. Former No. 1 T20I batsman Abhishek Sharma also failed to make this list. In this scenario, Vaibhav Suryavanshi distinguished himself in his very first match.
In the second T20I in Manchester, India batted first and scored 190. In response, England batted brilliantly and reached the target in the 19th over.
The hero of England’s victory was Jacob Bethell, who played a brilliant unbeaten inning of 76 runs and was named Player of the Match. Although Team India lost, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut and his remarkable record became a topic of discussion among cricket fans.
