Vinod Tawde to lead the party’s Uttar Pradesh operations with four co-in-charges; organisational coordination, booth management and election preparedness expected to be key priorities
Lucknow: With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strengthened its organisational setup in the state by putting together a five-member team headed by national general secretary Vinod Tawde. Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pradeep Verma and Anant Ojha have been appointed as co-in-charges to assist him.
The appointments are part of a wider organisational reshuffle announced by BJP president Nitin Nabin for states and Union Territories across the country. Uttar Pradesh, one of the states scheduled to hold Assembly elections in 2027, has been assigned four co-in-charges in addition to Tawde, giving the state one of the larger organisational teams in the reshuffle.
The move indicates an increased focus on strengthening the party organisation, improving coordination at the grassroots level and preparing its election machinery well ahead of the polls. Reports indicate that booth management, addressing organisational differences and strengthening the BJP’s presence across different regions of Uttar Pradesh are among the areas the new team is expected to focus on.
Tawde had already been appointed the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge, while former Gujarat MLA Jagdish Patel was initially named co-in-charge. The party subsequently expanded the team by adding Medha Kulkarni, Pradeep Verma and Anant Ojha as co-in-charges.
Tawde, a BJP national general secretary, has considerable organisational experience and has handled important responsibilities for the party in several states. He was also involved in the BJP’s organisational and election strategy in Bihar before being given charge of Uttar Pradesh.
Pradeep Verma, a Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand and BJP national secretary, has held several organisational positions within the party. His appointment is being viewed as part of the BJP’s effort to strengthen coordination and assess election preparedness at different levels of the Uttar Pradesh organisation.
Anant Ojha is a former two-term MLA from Jharkhand’s Rajmahal Assembly constituency. He began his political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and has previously been given organisational responsibilities during elections in Bihar and West Bengal.
Medha Kulkarni, a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra, and Jagdish Patel, a former Gujarat MLA, complete the five-member team. The combination brings together leaders from different states and with varied organisational backgrounds.
The appointments come as the BJP intensifies preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Tawde has already held meetings in different parts of the state to review election preparedness, improve grassroots coordination and fine-tune organisational and election-management plans.
With Uttar Pradesh carrying major political significance because of its 403-member Assembly and its large representation in Parliament, the expanded organisational team is expected to play an important role in coordinating the BJP’s preparations as the 2027 election draws closer.
