New Delhi: The controversy surrounding Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to deepen. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has strongly objected to the remarks, describing them as an affront to political dignity and the honour of the nation. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced nationwide protests, demanding an unconditional apology from Kharge.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reacted strongly to the controversy, stating that the matter concerns not just an individual or a family but the honour of India as a whole.
He emphasised that in a democracy, questioning policies, expressing dissent, and criticising the government are acceptable, but political leaders must not cross the boundaries of personal decorum.
Singh further remarked that the Congress party has not only weakened politically but has also experienced an ideological decline. He asserted that such rhetoric would not deter Prime Minister Modi from his commitment to serving the people.
BJP leaders strongly criticised the Congress president, stating that dragging someone’s family members and deceased relatives into political disputes is highly condemnable.
The party demanded an unconditional apology from Kharge and alleged that Congress leaders were defending the use of inappropriate language.
In response to the controversy, the BJP has instructed all its state units to organise peaceful demonstrations across the country. Party leaders have called for nationwide protests to condemn the remarks and demand accountability from the Congress leadership.
