South Indian actress Jyothika has spoken out about the problems faced by actresses in the Tamil film industry. She was speaking in an interview with Fever FM in connection with the promotion of the Netflix web series ‘Dabba Cartel’. Her open comments came while responding to the issue that men continue to be superstars even after they grow old, but women cannot do the same.
“Actually, this is a big question in South India. I had children when I was 28. I don’t think I have worked with any star or hero since then. It is a big challenge for you to build a career with new directors. It is all related to age,” said Jyothika.
Also, there are no big filmmakers or experienced directors like K. Balachander to make films for women. There are no films for women or stories in which women play important roles. We only have those who make films for bigwigs. I don’t think a big filmmaker is making a film for a woman actor these days. Jyothika also said that the journey of a woman in South India seems extremely difficult.
‘Dabba Cartel’ tells the story of five housewives in 1960s Mumbai. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, the web series also stars Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jishu Sengupta, and Lillette Dubey along with Jyothika.
