New Delhi: A two-day program to train MLAs in the Delhi Assembly started on Tuesday. Lok Sabha Speaker, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Atishi attended the meeting. All the MPs in the Delhi Assembly were also present in this program.
Atishi said that first of all I congratulate all the MLAs. The people of Delhi have given us 70 MLAs a chance to sit in the Assembly. Sitting in this Assembly is not just a matter of pride and dignity. Sitting in this House is a huge responsibility.
LOP Atishi said that when the British gave rights to Indians for the first time in this House, Lal Lajpat Rai, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Motilal Nehru and Vitthalbhai Patel sat in the House and raised their voice for India’s independence. 150 years have passed but even today whatever was done in this House is written in the history books and we all remember it.
She said that whatever act was passed in the House, the British had a monopoly in it. Hundreds of people of the country sacrificed their lives to gain the right to take decisions. India was one of the few countries in the world where women got the right to vote. If we all got the power to vote, it was only because of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Because he had made the Constitution of the country.
In this program, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that all the MLAs who are attending the program are very welcome. It is our good fortune that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has joined the program. We have reached inside the House by winning the hearts of the people of Delhi, it is our big responsibility. Respecting the House should be our priority.
